The program is headed into California, Arizona, Texas, Nevada, Illinois, Virginia, Oklahoma and Georgia.

Mercury insurance has announced that it is expanding its program which makes it possible for all its homeowners’ policyholders to use an app for DIY home inspections.

The app uses an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) assistant to complete the necessary steps.

The insurer initially rolled out its DIY home inspections program for policyholders using the app in New York and New Jersey last summer. Now, it has expanded to eight more states, to include all its homeowners’ insurance policyholders. It allows homeowners to do a self-inspection of their property through step-by-step guidance. It also provides users with the option to use a contactless experience. The AI assistant app can be downloaded from either Google Play or the Apple App Store.

“We do so much with smartphones now that giving our insureds the ability to use photos and video to capture and verify the characteristics of their property made so much sense,” explained Holly Sacks, Mercury Insurance Portfolio Underwriter. “The AI in our app is top-class, making it super simple to complete a self-inspection. The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and fun to use!”

New policyholders will receive an email for the DIY home inspections app download and activation.

After the app has been downloaded and activated through Mercury Insurance, owners can complete the process of self-inspecting their property at the time that best suits them. They no longer need to make an appointment to complete the process.

The virtual inspection process is completed using the app’s cutting-edge AI technology, in combination with high fidelity video and a conversation feature that allows the process to be streamlined. In this way, the homeowner has everything needed to capture everything the insurance company requires for accurately underwriting a policy. Typically, this process takes about thirty minutes to complete.

The insurer’s DIY home inspection app technology partner, Flyreel, developed the artificial intelligence to support the insurer’s efforts to provide policyholders and DIY home inspections - person using magnifying glasstheir properties with protection through these AI tools and features. Using the feature saves time, money and provides greater convenience to homeowners who can complete it as it fits their schedule, without having to have anyone visit their property.
